Before Camp:

  • Let us know you plan on attending camp (you can email us via TroopTrack email and RVSP on the calendar)
  • Schedule and take your physical. This must be done for all Scouts and Scouters.
  • Submit 2 copies of your BSA Medical Form (Part C signed by medical professional) and 2 copies of your Health Insurance card or TRICARE proof of insurance. Date of physical must be less than a year before camp.
  • If applicable, Food Allergy forms need to be given 3 weeks BEFORE camp.
  • Pay any remaining camp fees to the Troop.
  • Fill out and turn in the 2024 Summer Camp Permission Form #2.pdf
  • If you don't already have one, get a Rubbermaid Action Packer Storage Container (24 gallon) for storing items that go to camp. We prefer all campers use this particular item to make packing the trailer easier. These can be found at REI, Walmart, online (i.e. Amazon), etc.
  • Start gathering items - 2024 Powhatan Summer Camp Packing List.pdf

Merit Badge signup information is now available.   We are attending camp during the STEM session, so those options are also available.  Please use the 2024 MB Signup Sheet.pdf to let us know what sessions you'd like to take.  Additional information for the classes are located in the Class_Catalog_2024_02_12.pdf  The camp also offers Brownsea Island, an all-day, all-week program focused on imparting Scouting’s essential skills and methods onto your newest Scouts and helping them to earn requirements for the ranks of Scout through First Class. Because of the program’s focus, Scouts in Brownsea Island do not have time to earn merit badges through regular classes.  As such, Brownsea Island participants will not select merit badges as part of their registration.

Options:

When choosing, pick sessions so that the day is filled and sessions don't overlap.  You can also rank the order you want sessions in case there are any that are filled up.

Some of the Merit Badges will have prerequisites listed.  Most of the time, this will be text, but some of them are just the requirement number (ex. 1, 4b 7).  In those cases, if you have the latest MB book, look in there, otherwise check online (for example, Camping Merit Badge, I searched for "BSA Camping Merit Badge").  The requirements and usually a workbook will be freely available.  Please check! Some of the requirements are extensive and must be done before camp.  If not done, the Scout will receive a partial and need to do the requirements at home in order to earn the MB.

Looking forward to a great Camp!

Paul and Sharon Gardner
